2009-2010 Season

NAQT SCT: February 6, 2010 at Rice University

Eric Kwartler and Albert Bayer each played solo to make the teams even, placing 2nd and 6th out of 6 teams, respectively. Stats are available here.

ACF Winter: January 16, 2010 at Seven Lakes High School

Henry Zhao drove one team consisting of himself, Albert Bayer, Mark Molaro, and Ralm Ricarte to Katy, Texas, to experience his first college quiz bowl tournament. The event, which was UT's first packet submission of the year, featured yet another small but strong field of 6 teams. UT's team went 3-7, and Albert finished 4th individually with 32.78 points per game. Stats are available here.

Terrapin: November 14 at Seven Lakes High School

Texas's Eric Kwartler, Matt Nance, and Albert Bayer played on Team Orange alongside Tom Brenner from A&M. The team went 3-4 to finish 4th in a field of 5. Matt and Eric finished 3rd and 4th in points per game, respectively. Stats are available here.

TRASH Regionals: November 7, 2009 at OU

Texas's Albert Bayer and Matt Nance joined Chris Romero, Trey Morris, and Tyler Johnson of A&M to form the Acafellas, a reference to Fox's TV series Glee. Matt drove the team, the tournament's lone representative from Texas, to Norman where they competed at the Southwest TRASH Regionals. The team finished 2nd out of 8, losing decisively in the finals to Battle Planet, one of the strongest teams in the country. Stats are available here.

ACF Fall: October 31, 2009 at UT

Texas fielded 1 team, consisting of Mark Molaro, Albert Bayer, and Ralm Ricarte. We placed fifth out of a strong field of 5 teams, with a notable victory against LASA A in a fun 1-7 day. Albert finished second individually, with 47.5 points per game. Stats are available here.

Early Fall Touranment: October 3, 2009 at UT

Texas fielded 3 teams, finishing 3rd (Yogesh Raut and Ray Yang), 7th (Albert Bayer, Mark Molaro, Leon, and Evan Rosenfield), and 10th (James Zhu, Brian, and David) out of 12. Individually, Yogesh Raut finished 1st with 106 points per game, with Albert Bayer and Mark Molaro also placing in the top ten. Stats are available here.

CBI Nationals - April 27-29, 2001 at California State University - Los Angeles

UT's team (Eric Smith, Suzy Rivoire, Jennifer Hopens, Jesse Moore, Adam Escandell) finishes 3rd overall, with Suzy finishing 10th in the individual stats. Thanks to Molly White for serving as institutional representative.

NAQT Nationals - April 6-7, 2001 at Washington University in St. Louis

UT's team (Eric Smith, Suzy Rivoire, Jennifer Hopens, Jesse Moore, Adam Escandell) finishes 18th overall.

ACF Nationals - March 23-24, 2001 at University of Michigan - Ann Arbor

UT's team (Eric Smith, Suzy Rivoire, Jennifer Hopens, Adam Escandell) finishes 10th overall, with Eric finishing sixth in the individual stats.

CBI Regionals - February 17, 2001 at UT-San Antonio

UT's team (Suzy Rivoire, Jennifer Hopens, Eric Smith, Jesse Moore, Adam Escandell) wins the tournament, finishing second in the 14-team round robin and then defeating Arkansas 2-1 in a 3-game final. Individual high scorers include Suzy (5th) and Jennifer (6th). Thanks also to Molly White for serving as institutional representative.

NAQT Sectional Championship - February 10, 2001 at Wichita State University

UT braves the snow to bring 2 teams: UT A (Eric Smith, Jennifer Hopens, Suzy Rivoire, Jesse Moore) and UT B (Jeff Ford, Adam Escandell, Amir Marouni, Andrew Dupont). UT A wins the tournament with a score of 12-0 in the triple round robin. Individual leaders include Eric (2nd), Jennifer (5th), Adam (6th), and Suzy (9th).

ACF Regional Championship - January 20, 2001 at UT

UT brings 3 teams: UT A (Eric Smith, Jennifer Hopens, Suzy Rivoire, Adam Escandell), UT B (Jesse Moore, Amir Marouni, Tom Wier), and UT C (Trent Dupuy, Nam Tran, Mengmeng Zhang, Dennis Wilson). UT A wins the tournament with a score of 10-0. Individual leaders include Eric (3rd), Suzy (6th), and Tom (9th).

CBI Campus Tournament - December 3, 2000 at UT

Cosponsored by the Union, this tournament is the largest UT campus tournament ever, with 25 teams and 97 individuals participating. Fish Out of Water (Eric, Suzy, Rich, Andy) beat Cy-Fair All-Stars (Jack, Buzz, Xiao, Adrian) 340-120 in the final game. Individual leaders (in descending order) are Adam (Pride of Rutland), Charles (No-Name All-Stars), Jesse (Free Agents), Buzz (Cy-Fair All-Stars), and Suzy (Fish Out of Water).

NAQT Intercollegiate Fall Tournament - November 18, 2000 at Texas A&M University

UT brings 3 teams: UT A (Eric Smith, Adam Escandell, Jeff Ford, Jesse Moore), UT B (Tom Wier, Dennis Wilson, Rich), and UT C (Chris Chang, Andrew Dupont, Amir Marouni). UT A finishes third in the tournament with a score of 8-2 in the round robin. Individual leaders included Eric (1st), Tom (6th), and Amir (9th).

Route 66 Tournament - October 7, 2000 at the University of Oklahoma

UT brings 2 teams: UT Orange (Eric Smith, Suzy Rivoire, Adam Escandell, Jesse Moore) and UT White (Andrew Dupont, Trent Dupuy, Amir Marouni). UT Orange wins the tournament, finishing 11-1 in the round robin, and UT White, participating in their first tournament, upsets Texas A&M A. Eric finishes fifth in the individual stats.


1999-2000 Season

NAQT Campus Tournament - April 22, 2000 at UT

The aptly-named Winners (Jesse, Buzz, Colin, and Naufil) emerged undefeated to win the tournament. The All-Star game pitted Jeff (top scorer), Rich, Dennis, and Buzz against Kerry, Matt, Ryan, and Jesse, with the latter team winning the All-Star Game.

NAQT Nationals - April 7 and 8, 2000 at Boston University

UT's Division I team (Eric Smith, Jennifer Hopens, Suzy Rivoire, Kerry Kaszak, Jeff Ford) finishes 14th overall, while the Division II team (Adam Escandell, Ram Kannappan, Jesse Moore, Rich Peng) finishes 15th. See: Div I Results and Div II Results.

ACF Regionals - University of Oklahoma

UT (Adam Escandell, Suzy Rivoire, Eric Smith, Kerry Kaszak, Ram Kannappan) finishes fourth, with Eric finishing third in the individual stats.

NAQT Sectionals - February 12, 2000 at the University of Oklahoma

UT's Division I team (Eric Smith, Suzy Rivoire, Kerry Kaszak, Jeff Ford) finishes 4th overall, with Eric finishing second in the individual stats. The Division II team (Adam Escandell, Ram Kannappan, Rich Peng) finishes second among Division II teams and eighth overall.
